The Sports Kings NFL Weekly Countdown Show New Years Day 1/1/17

Happy New Year!!!!!!!!!

Special Guest- Former Defensive end and 2-time Super Bowl Champion Jim Jeffcoat join the Sports Kings to talk Dallas Cowboys

It’s the final push for NFL teams as the regular season ends on Sunday, January 1. All 16 games are division contests. And with one week to go, there are still 14 teams in contention for a trip to Super Bowl LI.

The schedule is set for Week 17, culminating with the final game of the 2016 regular season (#Game256) to determine the NFC North winner. On Sunday night in primetime (8:30 PM ET, NBC), the Detroit Lions (9-6) will host the Green Bay Packers (9-6) at Ford Field with the division title on the line. And, depending on the results of Sunday’s earlier games, the loser of this contest could be out of the playoff picture entirely.

The playoff teams in the AFC are locked in – New England (13-2), Oakland (12-3), Kansas City (11-4), Pittsburgh (10-5), Miami (10-5) and Houston (9-6) – although there’s still plenty to play for in Week 17.

In the NFC, three of the four NFC division winners have been determined: Dallas (NFC East), Atlanta (NFC South) and Seattle (NFC West). The Cowboys (13-2) have secured home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs. The Falcons (10-5) can earn the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye with a win or losses by both Seattle and Detroit. The Seahawks (9-5-1) can lock up the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye with a win and an Atlanta loss.

Sports Kings NFL Weekly Countdown Show Week 14

Special Guest: Mary Kay Cabot-Cleveland Browns Sportswriter for the Plain Dealer and Cleveland.com

Guest Co-host: Justin McCarter

There are only four games remaining in the regular season to decide who advances to the playoffs for a shot at a trip to Super Bowl LI.

As the NFL enters the final quarter of the regular season, there are 19 teams either in or within one game of a playoff spot.

Entering Week 14, only one team – the Dallas Cowboys (11-1) – has clinched a spot in the 2016 playoff field. The Cowboys, who have secured at least a playoff berth, can win the NFC East division title with a win at the New York Giants on Sunday night. The Cowboys can also clinch a first-round bye with a win and either a Detroit loss or a Seattle loss. And Dallas can lock up the No. 1 overall seed in the NFC with a win and losses by both Detroit and Seattle.

The week concludes with a pair of primetime contests with playoff implications. On Sunday night (8:30 PM ET, NBC), the Cowboys (11-1) visit the New York Giants (8-4). Dallas, which has won 11 consecutive games, has already secured a playoff berth and will clinch the division title with a victory. The Giants, who handed the Cowboys their only loss this season (20-19 in Week 1), are currently in position for the NFC’s first Wild Card spot.

On Monday night (8:30 PM ET, ESPN), the Patriots (10-2) host the Baltimore Ravens (7-5). New England can clinch the AFC East division title for the eighth consecutive season with a win and a Miami loss, which would be the longest streak of division titles in NFL history. Baltimore has won four of its past five games and enters Week 14 tied with Pittsburgh for first place in the AFC North.

Sports Kings NFL Weekly Countdown Show Week 9 November 6, 2016

The first half of the season has been packed with thrilling comebacks and close finishes, but the excitement will only intensify as the playoff push begins. And there’s still plenty of football to be played so don’t count teams out yet.

November has arrived and the NFL season enters its second half. Here at the mid-point of the season, we have two teams with just one loss New England (7-1) and Dallas (6-1). Three times with two losses Denver (6-2, .750), Oakland (6-2, .750) and Kansas City (5-2, .714) and how about this, the entire NFC East is the only division in football right now with a winning record,,Dallas (6-1), the New York Giants (4-3), Philadelphia (4-3) and Washington (4-3-1).

Dustin Phifer joins us to talk Carolina Panthers and Cam Newton on this week's Sports Kings NFL Weekly Countdown Show here on SB Nation Radio.

Rod Johnson’s Farewell Show- October 27, 2016

The Sports Kings ( Ronnie Brooks, Necole Key, Dustin Phifer and Gene Thompson) pay tribute to Rod Johnson. We lost Rod on October 5, 2016 and to be quite honest, things haven't been the same for the Sports Kings program. The decision was made to cancel all remaining shows for the month of October out of respect for our dear friend, however I decided that we should all get together and remember Rod in our own special way. This show gives us that opportunity to do so. Please join us as we share our most pleasant memories of our dear friend and co-host Hot Rod Johnson.

Rod's family has expressed their sincere appreciation for the support everyone has displayed and wanted everyone to know that Rod enjoyed talking sports.

SB Nation Sports Kings NFL Weekly Countdown Show Week 3

The Sports Kings NFL Weekly Countdown Show with MeanGene "The Sports Machine" and Hot Rod Johnson on SB Nation Radio.

Eight teams are undefeated through the first two weeks of the season – BALTIMOREDENVERHOUSTONMINNESOTANEW ENGLAND, the NEW YORK GIANTS, PHILADELPHIA and PITTSBURGH – and hope to move to 3-0 this weekend.

History shows that 0-2 teams advance to the playoffs more often than people might think. Since the current playoff format was instituted in 1990, 26 teams started 0-2 and still qualified for the postseason

Last season, the HOUSTON TEXANS started the season 0-2 and went on to win the AFC South.

The 1993 Dallas Cowboys started 0-2 before winning Super Bowl XXVIII. The 0-2 New England Patriots of 1996 played in Super Bowl XXXI, and in 2001, the 0-2 Patriots won Super Bowl XXXVI. The 2007 New York Giants started 0-2 before winning Super Bowl XLII.
